Synopsis
"An impressive debut." - Publishers Weekly ***International Book Awards Finalist -- Best New Fiction *** They said you can't take your money with you when you die. What if they were wrong? Srinath Adiga's timely satire explores the pitfalls of modern capitalism and the dangerous power of myth. Hong Kong, 2002. A stock market trader desperate to pay off a gangster debt invents a scam: Afterlife Dollars. A product inspired by an ancient Chinese custom that allows people to buy their way into heaven. It's the beginning of a dizzying chain reaction that ripples in Mumbai, where one man does the unthinkable to secure his afterlife--while thousands of miles away in Amsterdam, another man races against time to stop an apocalypse. As a cast of larger-than-life characters grapple with unprecedented moral dilemmas, their choices will affect the rest of humanity. Profound, exhilarating and full of unexpected twists, Dead Money balances intelligence and dark humour with compassion, empathy and hope. Its cleverness lies in its ability to convince us that the impossible can happen--a compelling, thought-provoking read at a time when the world stares at an uncertain future. What if they were wrong? Srinath Adiga's timely satire explores the pitfalls of modern capitalism and the dangerous power of myth., Inspired by an obscure Chinese custom and based on actual 21st century events, Srinath Adiga's debut novel is a current, chillingly dark satire in the mold of Brave New World and 1984. It is tale of greed, corruption and how the very things that make us human can lead to our demise. They said you can't take your money with you when you die. What if they were wrong? Profound, intense and cleverly plotted with unexpected twists and turns, Dead Money is a multi-faceted satire in the vein of 1984 and Brave New World about capitalism, religion and how the very things that make us human can ultimately lead to our demise. A stock market trader in Hong Kong desperate to pay off a fifty-three-million-dollar gangster debt. A mysterious suicide bomber in Mumbai under the spell of a dangerous myth. A banker in Amsterdam waging a lone battle to avert a global catastrophe. Three men whose disparate journeys are connected by a dizzying chain of causes and effects from Afterlife Dollars. A product based on Chinese mythology that promises happiness in the next world, yet has a devastating effect on this one. As the characters grapple with their individual moral dilemmas, their choices will affect the rest of humanity. The item was just as described and an amazing price so that's why I'm giving positive feedback. It's over 10 dollars cheaper than average for this item which can't be beat. But man, it took over 20 days to get to me. And when I messaged them I got stock response until finally told it shipped and then it did. That's the problem with this seller, they make the shipping label almost instantly but take weeks to actually send out the item. I dunno if I'll order from them again.

I see a number of negative comments about this seller, but I took a chance since it was a great price for the book I was looking for. I ordered on July 2 and just got the book today July 22. It came in safely packed and intact. Condition was as described and expected. The seller uses DHL for shipping, and I think this is where most complaints stem from. Once I ordered the book there was no further info other than it had shipped. No tracking number. Otherwise, I have no issues with this seller.

Very slow to arrive (well past the estimate), but came safely at last in minimalist packaging. Customer service was polite when contacted regarding delay and an initial lack of tracking details. After communicating with them, the tracking eventually began to provide updates but it was a long wait. The book was a different edition than pictured but it was in a “very good” condition as advertised; also it was fairly priced. Overall, I am satisfied except for the very long wait.
