Synopsis
Imaging Life is an accessible textbook that covers scientific imaging, from creating pictures with a wide range of instruments, to processing and analyzing them., Hands-on textbook to understand and successfully process biological image data In Imaging Life: Theory and Practice , distinguished biologist Dr. Lawrence R. Griffing delivers a comprehensive and accessible exploration of scientific imaging, including but not limited to the different scientific imaging technologies, image processing, and analysis. The author discusses technical features, challenges, and solutions of the various imaging modalities to obtain the best possible image. Divided into three sections, the book opens with the basics such as the various image media, their representation and evaluation. It explains in exceptional detail pre- and postprocessing of an image. The last section concludes with common microscopic and biomedical imaging modalities in light of technical limitations and solutions to achieve the best possible image acquisition of the specimen. Imaging Life: Theory and Practice is written specifically for readers with limited mathematical and programming backgrounds and includes tutorials on image processing in relevant chapters. It also trains students in the use of popular, open-source software. A thorough introduction to imaging methods, technical features, challenges, and solutions to successfully capture biological images Offers tutorials on image processing using open-source software in relevant chapter Discusses details of acquisition needs and image media covering pixels, pixel values, contrast, tonal range, and image formats In-depth presentation of microscopic and biomedical imaging modalities Perfect for undergraduate students in the biological sciences and engineering, Imaging Life: Theory and Practice is also an ideal resource for graduate students and professionals working in research labs, biotech companies, and equipment vendors., Imaging Life is an accessible textbook that covers scientific imaging, from creating pictures with a wide range of instruments, to processing and analyzing them. It discusses imaging techniques and problems using biological subjects at many different scales in time and space. Divided into three sections, Imaging Life opens with chapters on how to create successful scientific images, from image capture through analysis, followed by chapters on image processing and concluding with a section covering the theory behind common imaging modalities, including X-Ray, MRI and ultrasound. Based on material developed for a web-based textbook for the author's upper level course on biological imaging at Texas A&M University, Imaging Life is a comprehensive guide to the complex world of acquiring, analyzing, editing, and presenting images, both moving and still, in the life sciences., Hands-on resource to understand and successfully process biological image data In Imaging Life: Image Acquisition and Analysis in Biology and Medicine , distinguished biologist Dr. Lawrence R. 2 volumes of Pogo comic strips, new and in perfect condition. Price was good, but shipping cost ($30 for two books) seems like a lot for how long it took to get delivered (23 days from Illinois to Spain). Also, seller communication was not great. First two times I wrote, their response did not address question. Third response explained at length about the private courier service they use and how it should take 1-10 business days to deliver. Maybe they should consider a different courier service.

The item was described to a Tee. Very good communication. Shipping was just a little slow. The box the set of books comes in was damaged (bent corners) due to packaging. Not a deal breaker because the grand kids will not store in that box; might be if it were to be given as a present. The three books in the box arrived in prefect shape. I WOULD purchase from greatbookprices1 again in the future. Thanks

*Same as the other review* Purchased two box sets from this seller with one being advertised as "like new" but was delivered as if it was actually new. Shipping time was a little slow, takes about 10 days to ship out and it takes a while to get through the system. But the packing was great and I'm still overall happy with my purchase.
