English summary: Baptism is a ritual that most people in Western societies have experienced, either as their own baptism or as participants. There are continuing discussions about the real meaning of the ritual, of its execution, about the age of the candidates to be baptized, the qualification of baptizers themselves and why baptism is still regarded as essential. This volume deals with these topics from different theological perspectives: Old Testament and Jewish studies, New Testament and church history provide the basis for further inquiries from a dogmatic and practical-theological point of view. A discussion of baptism as a religious and social ritual is also included. On this basis, the volume provides insights into the current status of the debate as well as suggestions for future discussions about baptism as well as for ecclesiastical practice. German description: Die Taufe ist jenes Ritual, das die meisten Menschen selbst erlebt haben. In einer Zeit religioser Ausdifferenzierung teilen sie oft das Wissen um das eigene Getauftsein und immer noch lassen sehr viele Menschen ihre Kinder taufen. Die Diskussion daruber, was denn die Taufe uberhaupt sein soll, wie sie wann und durch wen geschehen soll und warum sie wichtig ist, ist ungebrochen lebendig. An dieser Debatte beteiligt sich Markus Ohler mit Hilfe dieses von ihm herausgegebenen Bandes: Alttestamentlich-judaistische, neutestamentliche und kirchengeschichtliche Erorterungen legen die biblischen und historischen Grundlagen fur dogmatische und praktisch-theologische Ausfuhrungen. Ebenfalls enthalten ist eine religionswissenschaftliche Analyse der Taufe als Ritual. Mit diesen Uberlegungen geben die Autoren und Autorinnen des Bandes Orientierungen im Gesprach und zugleich Impulse fur neues theologisches Nachdenken uber die Taufe und ihren Vollzug in der kirchlichen Praxis.

Price was good, but shipping cost ($30 for two books) seems like a lot for how long it took to get delivered (23 days from Illinois to Spain). Also, seller communication was not great. First two times I wrote, their response did not address question. Third response explained at length about the private courier service they use and how it should take 1-10 business days to deliver. Maybe they should consider a different courier service.
