Reviews
"Krakauer is a masterly writer and reporter." -- The New York Times Book Review "A first-rate journalist." -- San Francisco Chronicle "Krakauer is an extremely gifted storyteller as well as a relentlessly honest and evenhanded journalist." -- Elle "Jon Krakauer has made a name for himself by writing about impassioned individuals and the incredible lengths to which they go in pursuit of their goals." -- San Jose Mercury News
Synopsis
Spanning an extraordinary range of subjects and locations, these ten gripping essays show why Jon Krakauer is considered a standard-bearer of modern journalism. His pieces take us from a horrifying avalanche on Mount Everest to a volcano poised to obliterate a big chunk of Seattle; from a wilderness teen-therapy program run by apparent sadists to an otherworldly cave in New Mexico, studied by NASA to better understand Mars; from the notebook of one Fred Beckey, who catalogued the greatest unclimbed mountaineering routes on the planet, to the last days of legendary surfer Mark Foo. Bringing together work originally published in such magazines as The New Yorker , Outside , and Smithsonian -all rigorously researched, vividly written, and marked by an unerring instinct for storytelling and scoop- Classic Krakauer powerfully demonstrates the author's ambivalent love affair with unruly landscapes and his relentless search for truth., Spanning an extraordinary range of subjects and locations, these ten gripping essays show why Jon Krakauer is considered a standard-bearer of modern journalism. - -***m (14)- Votos emitidos por el comprador.Últimos 6 mesesCompra verificadaThe book was listed as an instructor’s review copy containing the same text as the student version. This item was listed “Like New” and came exactly as advertised. The seller, solr_books, packaged it nicely in a bubble envelope to prevent damage during transport. I was very happy with this purchase. I had paid very close to the same for a used student version that was so marked up and highlighted that I could not use it. Great Seller! I would definitely purchase again through them.
- d***n (996)- Votos emitidos por el comprador.Últimos 6 mesesCompra verificadaShipped with tracking - excellent! Listing description indicated there was an inspection of this particular copy - also very much appreciated. Only quibble is the un-padded thin-plastic shipping bag (which showed signs of shipping damage - tears and scrapes). But the book itself arrived in perfect condition, WITH the dust jacket. So, all good! Would buy from this seller again. Recommended.
- a***i (62)- Votos emitidos por el comprador.Últimos 6 mesesCompra verificadaBook exactly as described. This matters to me because I am very sensitive to mold or other contaminants, especially on paper. Clean copy. Clear expectations regarding shipping time. Only less-than-perfect element is book was shipped in a plastic envelope without any stiff cardboard or other protection, causing some corner bending and a little on the cover. Nothing major, and I am very happy with the book. Thanks!
