"Cole Arthur Riley is a spiritual guide and a gift in our lives. Restoring us to ourselves and reminding us of our humanness, our fragility, and the strength of faith, she calls us back to community, to breath, to our god-given selves. Black Liturgies is true spiritual balm for our troubled times." --Michael Eric Dyson, New York Times bestselling author of What Truth Sounds Like "Black Liturgies is a garden for the soul. With rare wisdom, beautiful clarity, and generous vulnerability, Cole Riley brings her whole self to these letters, verses, and promptings, offering bright, deep truths about who we are and can be as Black women, Black people, and human beings. Hold these luminous words close and let them be your balm." --Tiya Miles, National Book Award winning author of All That She Carried, "Readers will be deeply moved by the beauty of Arthur Riley's writing and her moral clarity, tenderness, and wisdom." --Imani Perry, National Book Award-winning author of South to America and columnist at The Atlantic "[Arthur] Riley's words remind us that liberation begins with coming home to oneself. . . . Readers will walk away from this book a little freer; even if the chains don't break, maybe they'll loosen enough for us to dance and clap." -- Sojourners "Cole Arthur Riley is a spiritual guide and a gift in our lives. Restoring us to ourselves and reminding us of our humanness, our fragility, and the strength of faith, she calls us back to community, to breath, to our god-given selves. In our hands, we hold a sacred Blackness. Black Liturgies will quiet you and guide you into the limitless space of your self." --Yaba Blay, PhD, cultural worker and author of One Drop: Shifting the Lens on Race "Cole Arthur Riley continues to show that she is one of this time's most powerful and potent writers on the body and spirit. What she shares is at once quiet and honest, intimate and profound. The prayers in this book seem to rise from our own cracks and breaks, from the deep well of Blackness itself." --Prentis Hemphill, author of What It Takes to Heal and founder of the Embodiment Institute "In a time when so many of us are being trained in cynicism, What it Takes to Heal stands in necessary defiance. Through their own memories, clinical trauma expertise, and social praxis, Hemphill reminds us that an ethic of repair is never futile, every page a portal to an emotional, embodied, interior and collective healing. Hemphillwith rare wisdom and nuancewrites as one well-acquainted with the terrors of this world, and the clarity of someone who refuses to be reduced to them." --Cole Arthur Riley, author of Black Liturgies and This Here Flesh "At long last, Prentis Hemphill has chosen to write what they have long known, practiced, taught, and embodied - that healing and social change are not disconnected, but are, when connected, the way through. This is a powerful, prescient, incisive book that helps us better understand ourselves, our relationships, and how to fully be in this world, all while creating the next." --Priya Parker, author of The Art of Gathering, "Readers will be deeply moved by the beauty of Arthur Riley's writing and her moral clarity, tenderness, and wisdom." --Imani Perry, National Book Award-winning author of South to America and columnist at The Atlantic "Cole Arthur Riley is a spiritual guide and a gift in our lives. Synopsis
For years, Cole Arthur Riley was desperate for a spiritually. She could trust. Amid ongoing national racial violence and a surge of anti-Black rhetoric in many Christian spaces, she began dreaming of a more human, more liberating expression of faith. She went on to create Black Liturgies, a digital project that connects spiritual practice with Black emotion, Black memory, and the black body. In this book, she brings together hundreds of new prayers, along with letters, poems, meditation questions, breadth practices, scripture, and the writings of Black literary ancestors to offer forty-three liturgies that can be practiced individually or as a community. Inviting readers to reflect on their shared experiences of wonder, rest, rage, and repair, and creating rituals for holidays like Lent and Juneteenth, Arthur Riley writes with a poet's touch and a sensitivity that has made her one of the most important spiritual voices at work today. For anyone healing from communities that were more violent than loving; for anyone who has escaped the trauma of white Christian nationalism, religious homophobia, or transphobia; for anyone asking what it means to be human in a world of both beauty and terror, Black Liturgies is a work of healing and empowerment, and a vision for what might be., NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER * A collection of prayer, poetry, and spiritual practice centering the Black interior world, from the author of This Here Flesh and creator of Black Liturgies "A true spiritual balm for our troubled times."--Michael Eric Dyson, author of What Truth Sounds Like For years, Cole Arthur Riley was desperate for a spirituality she could trust. Ok, so this is complicated... They totally messed up the FIRST shipment, and made it go to a town TWENTY-SIX miles from my address! But they were QUICK TO RESPOND; helped me get a REPLACEMENT book; AND got the replacement here in a good time-frame. I gave them a POSITIVE review ONLY because of how they handled FIXING THE ISSUE. The item came in BRAND NEW and was packaged well. But... they have a bad rep of sending the wrong item or messing up the address info. They need to be more careful.

Item is just as described, although it’s pictured larger than actual size; which is the size of a deck of flash cards. Also disappointed that the item was mailed to wrong address or customer mix up & no one responded to my email or apologized or explained why item was sent somewhere else. I don’t know if this is a reflection of seller or seller’s employees? I had a project to use it on & just moved forward. Thank you seller.

Nice book at a good price. Only issue I had with this Seller is the fact they use a "third party" shipping company called OSM Worldwide, that is very poor at their job. This third party caused a delay of 3 to 4 days at least in my receiving the book I purchased. I have contacted the Seller and made them aware of this issue. Should you decide to do business with this Seller just be aware that your book may take longer than usual to arrive.
