I'm not sure what the square piece could be for (it's not shown in any of the literature that I've read regarding installation / use). The seller did offer to open another kit and send me one if I wanted it, however I don't feel it's needed for my installation (M38). I wouldn't hesitate to do business with this seller again. If you need the square piece, have the seller check to see if your kit has one.
