Slate "Koelbl set out to explore the idea of the enemy and the many forms through which fear and hatred manifest themselves in various locations and cultures. To do so, she captured the many appearances of targets used for military training in over 20 countries. . . Targets presents a disturbing look at the many faces of 'evil', or at least the faces of those deemed worthy of killing." Huffington Post

In a career spanning nearly three decades, Herlinde Koelbl has firmly established herself as Germany's most acclaimed photographer. From intimate scenes of private life, to the corridors of power, Koelbl's eye for detail allows us to see the world we think we know in ways we never imagined. In her most recent book, Targets, Koelbl has focused her lens on the phantom battle scenes used by armies worldwide to train their soldiers to shoot to kill. In the vast expanse of barren deserts, in labyrinths of concrete bunkers, and in mock Arab villages created by Hollywood set designers, soldiers are being taught to take aim at a great range of targets, all for the same deadly purpose. Over a period of six years Koelbl has visited military training camps in more than 20 countries across the globe, to see how soldiers learn their trade. The result is a compilation of portraits--surprising, disturbing, and fascinating--of the lifeless targets used in practice to simulate an enemy in order to prepare for wars yet to come. Accompanying the photographs are texts from Koelbl's conversations with soldiers along with insightful essays on the increasingly diverse and perplexing conditions confronted by military populations throughout the world.

- v***z (26)- Votos emitidos por el comprador.Últimos 6 mesesCompra verificadaMy item arrived in incredible condition and in nice packaging. The book I purchased was harder to track down than others, so I was happy to see that this seller had it and at an affordable price! Moreover, although shipping wasn’t free, it was super fast and arrived days the rest of my other packages! I have zero complaints and look forward buying from this seller again!
- l***f (849)- Votos emitidos por el comprador.Últimos 6 mesesCompra verificadaFirstly, let me say that I truly appreciate the type of packaging the seller used for this book. It was sturdy and firm. If more booksellers used that type of packaging, we'd have less dog-eared and frayed softcover books. Secondly, I must give the seller a round of applause for shipping the book less than 24 hours after I bought it. A lot of booksellers wait many days before shipping their books. Overall, I'm impressed with the level of professionalism and care that this seller exuberates.
