Title: 'Atlantic Beach', the book published Author: Graeme Moore Publisher: ABC 15 Carolina Live News Date: 6/16/09 Nearly 80 years of Atlantic Beach history has been put in black and white in a brand-new book. The latest installment of the "Images of America" series spotlights Atlantic Beach and was written by Sherry Suttles and the Atlantic Beach Historical Society. One of the original all-black beaches in America caught the attention of the book's author -- a woman not even from the area. "It was just a miracle to me that there was a little piece of earth that Black folk owned, paid for and bought, and had done so 75 years ago. And there was nothing else written about it that I knew of," said the author of the book Sherry Suttles. Suttles will hold a book signing this Saturday from 1pm - 3pm at the Books-a-Million at Myrtle Beach Mall near North Myrtle Beach.
Synopsis
Atlantic Beach, once a mecca for African American vacationers in Myrtle Beach and other East Coast communities during segregation, remains one of a few African American-owned and governed oceanfront resorts in North America. In 1934, George W. Tyson and his wife, Roxie Ballen Tyson, began purchasing and developing land in the area. The Atlantic Beach Company, which was comprised of doctors from North Carolina and South Carolina, continued this process from 1943 until 1956, and the tiny safe haven fondly became known as the Black Pearl of the Grand Strand. Visitors came by the busload for the fishing, swimming, R&B beach music, and popular dancing among African Americans that later became known as the shag. Thousands of tourists continue to flock to the area on their motorcycles each year for the popular Memorial Day weekend BikeFest., Atlantic Beach, once a mecca for African American vacationers in Myrtle Beach and other East Coast communities during segregation, remains one of a few African American-owned and governed oceanfront resorts in North America. Received books as listed (New). Well packed in box mailer. Only problem is that this shipment involved two shippers (UPS & USPS) . Cheaper for the seller, BUT unknown lengthening due to USPS for the buyer.

Thanks for a perfect 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟buying experience! Everything was perfect: the price, item was as described, packed with care, shipped promptly, and nice communication! I highly recommend you to others!! 💞For those reading this, I'd like to tell you why my heart is full of love for Christ Jesus! Before I asked Him for forgiveness of my sins, I lived in constant SHAME. Romans 10 promises if I believe in my heart He died on the Cross, and rose from the dead, to take away my sins, I 'd be saved!💞
