Exuberant... Written in simple, engaging language and illustrated with fantastical drawings and photographs., It makes for a refreshingly economical way to explore some of the natural world's more venturesome residents., Eamer has successfully balanced playful with informative... an excellent and highly engaging addition to any school or personal library. Eamer's text is kid-friendly but not at all simplistic, and informs while entertaining. A very good book., Eamer has successfully balanced playful with informative... an excellent and highly engaging addition to any school or personal library., From marine insects and glacial ice worms to climbing fish called mudskippers, snakes that glide between trees, and cave-visiting birds that navigate using echolocation, Earner introduces more than three dozen animals that don't confine themselves to typical habitats. Close-up color photos depict each in a natural setting, and for readers who want to dig deeper, Earner provides generous multimedia reading lists to supplement her information-rich but brief profiles. The book is a bit overdesigned--the real animals are joined on many spreads by colored versions of the Cheshire Cat and other denizens of John Tenniel's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland illustrations--but considering that many publishers would have likely stretched the book's concept into a series of slender, separate titles, it makes for a refreshingly economical way to explore some of the natural world's more venturesome residents.

Synopsis
Fish in trees? Frogs underground? Who knew? No one would expect to see a bird at the bottom of a stream, yet that is precisely where the American dipper hunts for food. How about a tortoise that lives in the desert? The way it keeps cool is even more surprising. Readers will be amazed to discover how the 36 animals featured in this book have evolved in order to live in hostile environments. From searing heat to glacial cold and from high in the sky to deep in the earth, these species endure extreme weather conditions and make their homes in the unlikeliest of places in order to hide from predators or to hunt for food. Some of the animals featured in the book are: Northern shrews whose brains and internal organs shrink during hibernation Snakes in Borneo that fly through the air Freshwater eels that travel over land to find food or a new source of water Salamanders that can go without food for 10 years! The full-color photographs and surprising, informative text will appeal to animal lovers of all ages.

- v***z (26)- Votos emitidos por el comprador.Últimos 6 mesesCompra verificadaMy item arrived in incredible condition and in nice packaging. The book I purchased was harder to track down than others, so I was happy to see that this seller had it and at an affordable price! Moreover, although shipping wasn’t free, it was super fast and arrived days the rest of my other packages! I have zero complaints and look forward buying from this seller again!
- l***f (849)- Votos emitidos por el comprador.Últimos 6 mesesCompra verificadaFirstly, let me say that I truly appreciate the type of packaging the seller used for this book. It was sturdy and firm. If more booksellers used that type of packaging, we'd have less dog-eared and frayed softcover books. Secondly, I must give the seller a round of applause for shipping the book less than 24 hours after I bought it. A lot of booksellers wait many days before shipping their books. Overall, I'm impressed with the level of professionalism and care that this seller exuberates.
