On his fifth album, Chris RIME rearrange the main themes from the TV shows issued in the 60's and the 70's. Great music, great players, great energy ! Don't miss it ! Everybody has once hummed the tunes from Magnum, Mission Impossible or The Avengers. The themes from the English or American series of the 60's and 70's have become absolute classics nobody can ignore. As a matter of fact they were all composed by gifted and world-famous musicians such as Lalo Shiffrin, Patrick Williams, Laurie Johnson, Henri Mancini or John Barry. Chris Rime, a virtuoso guitar player and master arranger, has decided to give them a new lease of life in his latest album entitled TV Orchestra. For this an awesome team was gathered, breathing an infectious energy into the venture. You could not imagine better bass players than Marcus Miller and Michel Alibo, or a better drummer than Roger Biwandu (Joe Zawinul, Salif Keita etc). Other musicians, just as gifted, joined this flawless rhythm section : Lionel Fortin (keyboards), Pierre-Olivier (sax soprano and baritone), Allen Hoist vocal, rap, flute), Antoine Illouz (trumpet), Jérémie Ternoy (piano). In this fifth album, Rime managed to combine the elegant patina of old furniture with modern arrangements. The result is a must-have CD taking us for a trip down memory lane and offering us a new sound as a bonus. What we can now call the Rime Sound is getting more and more recognizable with each new release : the mark of his magic touch can be picked on all the pieces he managed to transform with both subtlety and musicality but without losing their soul or their essence. Check the video teaser on Youtube : chris rime tv orchestra This album has already been reviewed by Jazzmag (the French JazzMagazine). 'a great album, not to be missed...' Magazine's reviews : Jazz Magazine # 634 Chris Rime TV Orchestra Chris Rime revisits a selection of themes from our all-time favourite TV series with a jazz- funk approach. Keep listening since these refreshing remakes are really worth it. They feature Peter Gunn, Mission Impossible, The Avengers (with Marcus Miller in full slapping ecstasy), The Cosby Show, Magnum, The Persuaders (John Barry's theme nostalgic touch is kept with both lyricism and feeling), The Streets of San Francisco, Mannix and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. The lead enjoys himself and the fans of blazing guitar-playing Hiram Bullock/Oz Noy/John Scofield-like won't complain. The sound is warm and glowing, the phrasing musical and Rime happily avoids any obvious temptation to overdo it. Moreover the three pieces he composed himself hold out next to Schifrin's, Mancini's, Williams's and others'. A special distinction to Siamese twins Michel Alibo and Roger Biwandu and their grooving rhythm section. Batteur Mag Chris RIME TV Orchestra We are in March and here comes Chris Rime's fifth album under his own name, the one before being a live album. The guitarist-cum-composer, arranger and teacher revisits the themes from English and American TV series of the 60's and 70's, as usual in good company. What do you think of Roger Biwandu (drums, percussion instruments), Michel Alibo (bass), Lionel Fortin (keyboards), Jérémie Ternoy (piano, Rhodes), Allen Hoist (flute, vocals), Pierre-Olivier Govin (saxophone), Antoine Illouz (trumpet), Jean-Claude Onesta (trombone) and Marcus Miller as guest star on one title (and yes, playing the bass, not the kazoo) ? Chris Rime passes the test with flying colours, breathing new life into these legendary themes thanks to complex harmonies and rhythms especially .The rhythm section is impeccable and the soloists inspired, so much so you could say these timeless melodies start a new life of their own.
