A 16-bit classic returns with 3D graphics, new game mechanics, new dungeons, and a new realm in The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. Set six generations after the events of A Link to the Past, A Link Between Worlds once again puts players in charge of the young hero Link as he explores the kingdom of Hyrule and attempts to rescue Princess Zelda from Yuga, an evil wizard who wants to plunge the land into darkness. As always, the game offers a mix of action and adventure, letting gamers visit towns, explore the wilderness, solve puzzles, and battle foes in dungeons.
In A Link to the Past players were able to travel to a more dangerous and troubled version of Hyrule known as the Dark World, but in A Link Between Worlds the Dark World has been replaced by the parallel realm of Lorule, whose Princess Hilda is also caught in Yuga's scheme. Gamers travel between the two worlds by making use of Link's new wall-merging ability, which lets him transform into a 2D painting to temporarily move along walls, solve puzzles, and slip through cracks. Unlike nearly every other game in the series, A Link Between Worlds features non-linear advancement, meaning players can explore the dungeons in any order they please, provided they have enough rupees to rent the necessary items from Ravio the shopkeeper.
