Author Paul Metz, Chief Test Pilot for the Northrop YF-23 ATF stealth fighter program, provides a detailed look at the YF-23's construction, flight test program, engines, and performance specs. While the competing Lockheed YF-22 was eventually chosen by the USAF, the YF-23 ATF proved to be a very capable and superb example of Low Observable (LO) fighter technology.

Reviews
The author's intimate knowledge of the aircraft and program as Chief Pilot really adds to this book. I can heartily recommend this book (as well as the entire Ginter series) to anyone with an interest in building a YF-23 or in aviation history!, I consider this is the most fascinating 'Air Force Legends' installment. And with so many excellent Ginter series antecedents, that's saying something., This book reflects the informed perspective of someone who knows more than he can permissibly share. The author was Northrop's chief test pilot, tapped for the maiden flight in the first of the company's two YF-23 test platforms. Paul Metz takes us into the cockpit with him, and it's a fantastic ride.
