This Garmin GPS receiver is a handheld GPS receiver, and features a 6.6-cm (2.6-inch) diagonal colour display. The Garmin GPSMAP 78S is designed for marine use and its features make it ideal for boaters and water sports enthusiasts. This Garmin GPS receiver has a triple-axis compass, which allows for an accurate signal no matter which direction the boat or watercraft is pointing. Additional features of the Garmin GPSMAP 78S handheld GPS receiver include a barometric altimeter, which tracks changes in pressure to predict altitude, and vivid colour mapping, which provides sharp contrast and vivid pictures even in direct sunlight. The molded rubber side grips protect the unit and also provide flotation capability in case the unit is dropped in deep water. This Garmin GPS receiver is WAAS-enabled, and the HotFix satellite position-prediction ability maintains a connection even in heavily wooded areas or under thick cloud cover. Powered by two AA batteries with 20 hours of operation time, this Garmin GPS receiver weighs measures 15.2 cm tall by 6.6 cm wide by 1.2 cm deep.
