This unit seamlessly connects your home or small office to a company's office with always-on data, voice, and video services at broadband network speeds. Users are free to use the device as just a wireless router. The 871W is just a part of the 870 Series of routers from Cisco. Like other routers in this series, it offers a number of routing protocols including Layer 2 tunneling protocol, access control lists, and generic routing encapsulation. Hardware accelerated 3DES is a standard encryption feature as is hardware accelerated AES. Despite its myriad of complex features, this router makes use of the Cisco SDM software for setup and deployment, meaning the time to get up and running is minimal. The device has four switch ports and a 10/100 Ethernet WAN port as well as a console port and two detachable antennae. The default DRAM of 128MB is expandable to 256MB. The Wi-Fi b/g connection is fully backward compatible with older protocols.
