Arguably the greatest basketball player in NBA history gets his own side-scrolling action game with Michael Jordan: Chaos in the Windy City. Run, jump, flip, ride (elevators), glide (on pulleys) and slam-dunk your way through more than 20 levels as you guide His Airness through four Chicago locations: The Cells, The Factory, The Laboratory and Riverview. Your job in the game is to rescue Michael's teammates, who have been kidnapped by Dr. Max Cranium. Each time Michael makes contact with a creature or an enemy he will lose some energy. Pick up MJ Hearts, Wheaties Boxes or Gatorade Bottles to increase energy and Golden Hearts to add another globe to the health meter. You should also pick up basketball coins. When you collect 100 coins, you will gain an extra life. Other items to pick up include high-tops, which provide brief invincibility, Golden 23s, which give you extra lives, and color-coded keys, which open doors. Behind doors you will find helpful items, such as power-ups and captives, and things you would be better off without, such as enemies. From time to time you will enter a warp door, which takes you to a bonus level where you can score points, power-ups and items by shooting baskets and defeating enemies. Throughout the game, Michael is supplied with an unlimited number of basketballs for use in throwing at enemies, flipping switches, activating platforms and, of course, performing slam-dunks. When you dunk the ball in one of the many hoops you'll see during your travels, you will score items, access a save point, or freeze or damage enemies. In addition to standard basketballs, there are seven different types of power balls, including a White Knuckleball, which goes through solid walls, a Flame Ball, which is twice as powerful as the normal balls, and a Smoking Earthquake ball, which shakes the entire screen, damaging all enemies in view. Once you find a power ball, it becomes a permanent part of your inventory. Michael Jordan: Chaos in the Windy City offers three levels of difficulty: rookie, pro and all-star. A password feature lets you save your progress after you turn off your game system.
