Synopsis"Goldscheider - A Catalogue of Selected Models" is the first book to record the production of the Viennese ceramic company. Founded in Vienna in 1885 by Friedrich Goldscheider, the firm maintained an art studio directly employing a number of designers while also commissioning designs from outside artists. Working with terra cotta, faience, porcelain, majolica, then diversifying into sculpture in bronze, pewter, marble, alabaster and plaster, the Goldscheider company reflected the changing fashions and tastes of its times. The firm participated in the Art Nouveau movement from both French and Austrian perspectives and, later, restated its international prominence with its Art Deco inspired designs. Figure production between the wars was a glorious cavalcade of extravagant, sensual women dancing and posing their way across Europe, expertly modeled and with brilliantly colored and patterned dresses. The Goldscheider masks and busts of the Viennese school were a particularly innovative series.Goldscheider probably produced over eight thousand models, some in very few numbers and many in quite large quantities. At its best, the firm produced impressive, often massive, symbolist images, charming feminine figurines, and splendidly avant-garde shapes and colors. Their worldwide sales are reflected in the global collecting market today.Ora Pinhas was born in Tel Aviv, Israel.
