Bubble Bobble, Taito's colorful and quirky 1986 coin-op game, inspires this Game Boy Color update from publisher Majesco Sales. Players guide a green dinosaur named Bub in his quest to save brother Bob through 60 levels of bubble blowing action. Before they can advance to the next screen, players must quickly eliminate all monsters found within a level, which is accomplished by first trapping a monster in a bubble and then popping it before the creature escapes. Monsters that free themselves will turn red and move faster than before. <br><br>Popping bubbles can be accomplished in one of several ways: characters can jump onto a bubble, trap it against a wall, push it until it speeds up and bursts, and even create chain reactions by popping those adjacent to other bubbles. Each stage has a time limit, and if players do not complete a level within the allotted time, a skull monster will appear to make things more difficult. The game also features boss encounters and special power-up bubbles possessing special attributes, such as water and lightning, to assist players in their quest to clear each screen. Progress during the game can be resumed via passwords provided at the end of each stage.
