The sequel to 1989's Motocross Maniacs on Game Boy once again echoes the basic gameplay of Nintendo's 8-bit hit, Excitebike. As in Excitebike and the original Motocross Maniacs, the play mechanics involve driving a dirt bike from left to right along a stunt-filled course. You'll need to race over steep hills, around loops, and up ramps while maintaining control of your bike so you land safely on the ground. Various items are available to boost your performance during the race, including Nitros, Mini Riders, Jets, Gasoline, Super Suspension, Speed, and Radials. While you have the option of racing against either a computer opponent or a friend, the focus is on achieving the best time in two play modes: Time Attack and Championship. Time Attack is a single race on your choice of ten courses while the clock ticks away. After completing the course, you can race it over again, switch to a different track, or save a "ghost" racer. This ghost racer will stay in memory for as long as you remain on the course, giving you the opportunity to top your previous performance. Championship is a series of five races that has you trying to achieve the highest overall ranking in both rookie and national classes. Battery-backed memory stores your best times, records, and any courses you decide to build. The latter option is accomplished with a track editor supporting up to three custom courses. A choice of 255 parts and 32 items are available, and you can share your finished masterpiece with a friend via Game Link Cable.
