This highly detailed depiction of Red Alert, the Autobot security officer, does justice to the character design from the original series. Made by the Takara Toy Company in Japan and licensed by Lamborghini, this classic character is well sculpted and highly articulate, transforms from heroic robot to sleek and sporty Fire Chief’s car, and comes with several fun accessories. Red Alert is a great addition to Takara’s Masterpiece line and is well suited for both play and display. Fans of the series will recognize Red Alert from the Generation 1 animated series. He was introduced as the heroic Autobots’ Security Director, the careful, overly zealous, and sometimes paranoid protector of his fellow peacekeepers. When his sensors detect a threat, Red Alert’s emergency flashers blink to life, warning those around of incoming danger. Very often, these moments were false alarms, played for comedic effect. All the same, Red Alert was shown to be a valuable member of the Autobot team. Now, he joins Takara’s team of Masterpiece action figures, their highly detailed and faithful recreations of the classic cast of characters. The Takara Toy Company has paid very close attention to detail, creating a version of Red Alert that is very accurate to the cartoon. He sports the Generation 1 Fire Department paint job, a vibrant red and white design that catches the eye quickly. In vehicle mode, this toy is the spitting image of a Lamborghini Countach, with a sleek, streamlined spoiler, semi-transparent red siren lights, and slots for mounting his multiple weapons. In robot mode, the fully poseable Red Alert looks to have popped right off the television screen, down to a set of faux wheel shoulder pads, to reflect a design element from the animated series that would otherwise not work well on an interactive, physical model. Standing at 6 1/2 inches tall, this security chief is ready for action with a red particle beam rifle in one hand, and a shoulder mounted rocket launcher. He can even simulate the character’s flashing warning lights, thanks to a plastic special effect assembly that fits nicely over the horns of his helmet. It is in these little details where Takara has shown the care they put into their product. This figure was made with the nostalgic fan in mind and is a bit of Transformers memorabilia for those fond of the original characters.
