The Allen-Bradley 1785-L30B processor/controller is equipped with a memory of 32,000 words and 1024 total I/O maximum, snd is more than capable of providing its user with next-level modular capabilities. Part of the PLC-5 series of programmable controllers, this processor/controller stands at the center of a control architecture that brings together existing and future systems by means of networks such as Ethernet/IP, ControlNet, and DeviceNet. In addition, the 1785-L30B processor/controller provides connectivity among SLC 500, ControlLogix, and MicroLogix controllers, expanding the possibilities for the user to utilize. With so many connectivity options, flexibility with the 1785-L30B processor/controller isn’t an issue, as it includes embedded network connections, allowing for cost-effective connections to a wide range of devices. As a PLC-5 controller, the 1785-L30B has high-speed, single-slot controllers that can be used for control and information processing. Specifically designed for larger sequential and regulatory control applications, this processor/controller comes equipped with specialized I/O requirements and/or the need to coordinate with other controllers and devices. In this particular model, the configurable port of the 1785-L30B processor/controller can be used for a universal remote I/O link, and can also be set up as either a scanner port, an I/O adapter port, or a data highway messaging communication link. Any one of these set-ups will result in an increase in the user’s capacity, as well as their functionality. The PLC-5 controller series comes with different memory sizes and network connections, enhancing the 1785-L30B processor/controller and offering a standard set of functions and communication options. Putting the 1785-L30B processor/controller into scanner mode will give the user the ability to monitor and control their I/O; or, if set as an adapter, the user can then coordinate the distribution of their processing. Every controller in the PLC-5 series offers built-in, configurable ports for data highway plus (DH+) or remote I/O, and the Allen-Bradley 1785-L30B processor/controller is no different. A DH+ connection supports the remote programming feature as well as information access, which is in addition to peer-to-peer communication between the PLC-5, other controllers, and devices. A remote I/O connection supports real-time data exchange for I/O, operator interface, and other third-party devices, allowing for quick and reliable service. With 12W of maximum power dissipation and 2.3 A of backplane current load, the high quality of this enhanced controller is well sustained within this product. In order to get the most bang for one’s buck, the PLC-5 series programmable controller requires a 1771 chassis to contain the various modules provided. Chassis are available in sizes of 1, 2, 4, 8, 12, and 16 module slots, in which the backplane provides a communication path between the I/O modules and either the controller or the I/O adapter module. The consistent size and mounting of the available 1771 chassis provide a universal configuration for system design and chassis-mounting configurations.
