Synopsis
The study deals with petitions from the Esclavos series of the Ecuadorian National Archives from court cases of the Corte Suprema de Quito in the period 1702-1849, in which enslaved people were involved directly. The focus is on the study of argumentative strategies as discourse traditions: including topoi, linguistic means of constructing ethos and pathos, and linguistic marking of argumentative functions and structures., Den Ausgangspunkt der Untersuchung bildet die Frage, inwiefern Diskurstraditionen auch durch inhaltliche Elemente repräsentiert werden können und insbesondere, welche Wechselbeziehungen es zwischen Argumentation und Diskurstraditionen gibt. Basis der Arbeit stellt ein Korpus von Bittschriften (ehemaliger) Versklavter und der jeweiligen Gegenpartei aus Gerichtsprozessen der Corte Suprema von Quito im Zeitraum von 1702 bis 1848 dar. Die Texte stammen aus der Serie Esclavos aus dem Nationalarchiv von Ecuador und weisen eine starke argumentative Dimension auf. Die qualitativ ausgerichtete Analyse behandelt die sprachliche Markierung von grundlegenden Elementen der Argumentation wie Konklusion und Argument, aber auch von Gegenargumentation und Unstrittigkeit. Ein wesentlicher Teil ist den Topoi gewidmet, d.h. den Schlussregeln, welche Argument und Konklusion verbinden. Diese spiegeln an den soziokulturellen und historischen Kontext gebundene Endoxa wider und zeichnen sich durch Besonderheiten bei der sprachlichen Realisierung aus. Auch die Selbstdarstellung, d.h. das Ethos, und die Konstruktion von Emotionen im Diskurs, das Pathos, weisen inhaltliche Traditionen und spezifische sprachliche Realisierungen auf. Die Untersuchung will im Bereich der Diskurstraditionen sowohl bisher weniger berücksichtigte Bereiche wie Argumentation und inhaltliche Diskurstraditionen beleuchten und gleichzeitig einen geographischen Raum in den Fokus rücken, der bisher nur von einer geringen Zahl Forscher:innen eingehender in diachronischer Hinsicht untersucht wurde.

Plus they did a good job packaging it well enough that despite being banged up on the outside my item was completely undamaged.

Just prepare for a longer wait than listed, but I got what I bought lol.
