Synopsis
Ce volume réunit les lettres écrites par et à Benjamin Constant au cours de l'année 1827. Significative dans sa carrière politique, cette année est marquée par les nombreuses interventions de Constant à la Chambre pour défendre la liberté de la presse, puis en fin d'année par le choix qu'il doit faire, après avoir été élu dans les deux circonscriptions, entre Paris et le Bas-Rhin. Il publie par ailleurs le premier volume de ses Discours à la Chambre des Députés et le troisième de De la Religion , et fait un long séjour en Alsace et aux thermes de Baden-Baden. Les lettres publiées ici renseignent sur les rapports de Constant avec ses lecteurs comme avec ses nouveaux électeurs.
