Use the drive to replace the original one or install a secondary drive for more space or as a backup. This drive comes with an impressive, 500GB capacity. That’s enough room to store more than 8,000 hours of digital music, 150,000 high-quality photos, 500 hours of video recordings, 125, two-hour, DVD value movies, and run additional software or programs. The form factor of the Western Digital drive is 2.5 inches. This provides a snug fit into most notebooks running an Apple or Microsoft Operating System. Along with its small size, the hard disk only weighs 4.13 ounces. This is beneficial in keeping the device low weight and easy to transport. Scorpio Blue 500GB hard drives also have a low power consumption, so they don’t drain a laptop’s battery, making these drives ideal for mobile devices. Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500GB hard disks are easy to install. Before starting the process, backup or transfer all of the files on the current drive. Even if you aren’t touching the primary drive, if any damage occurs during the process, all the data is lost. The seven-pin Serial ATA-300 or SATA II is the interface to connect the drive to the motherboard. An interface is a cable for the WD 5000BPVT that resembles a thin USB. To complete this, remove the old drive and connect the 1 x SATA II 3 Gb/s cable into the first channel if you are replacing the drive or use the remaining channels for more storage with the Western Digital 500GB secondary HDD or an internal backup drive. After you connect it, slide it into the slot, so it doesn’t move around inside the case. A drive that’s loose or isn’t sitting correctly in the groove may fail from physical damage and overheating. The Scorpio Blue may require accessories, such as a mounting kit to fit the smaller drive into the tower’s slot. Another common accessory is an adapter for the SATA connection depending on the device’s model number.With the Scorpio Blue’s internal data rate of 106MBps, a drive transfer rate of 300MBps, and an average latency of 5.5 milliseconds, the 5,400 RPM Western Digital hard drive provides an optimal speed and performance for laptops. The buffer size or the amount of memory in the Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500GB HDD is 8MB. This gives your notebook or desktop a large cache to hold temporary internal data storage for quick access or maintain speed during transfers.
