If you were a fan of the original, "Gears of War 2" improves on it in every way.Upon starting "Gears of War 2," you'll first notice that the graphics are a step up from the previous title. The developers took what they learned from the previous release and pushed the Xbox 360 to its limits. The faces of the characters are incredibly realistic with every pore and hair rendered. The scaly skin of the Locust Horde is appropriately slimy with their teeth glistening in the sun. The game's signature kills are even more bloody thanks to the detail provided by the Unreal Engine. "Gears of War 2" is one of those standout titles that shows off what the system is capable of.This software has the story and gameplay to back up its graphics. Interspersed among the fighting are engaging cut scenes to tell this new tale. The story is intense and will keep you on the edge of your seat. The voices of famous voice actors such as John DiMaggio return to provide the voice for characters such as Marcus Fenix. The campaign is lengthy, taking most gamers around 10 hours to complete. However, because the story offers branching paths, gamers will want to replay it to experience all the content.In addition to the single-player campaign, there are many multiplayer options included. Players can compete locally with their buddies or online against worldwide opponents. There are both cooperative modes and many competitive modes. This title was the first one in the series to use the Horde multiplayer game type. In this game mode, you must survive against 50 waves of increasingly difficult enemies.The limited-edition version had a release date of 2008 and came with an array of items. Instead of a regular Xbox case, this edition comes in a SteelBook case. This case is sturdy and looks fantastic on a shelf. The SteelBook case also includes alternate cover art. Fans who want to see how "Gears of War" was created will love the accompanying "Making of Gears of War" DVD. There is also an in-game bonus for online users: a gold-plated Lancer assault rifle. Rounding out this list of bonuses is the "Beneath the Surface: An Inside Look at Gears of War 2" book. This hardcover art book has 48 pages of concept art and character information.If you're a fan of the "Gears of War" franchise, the limited edition of the second game is one you'll want. In addition to a fantastic piece of software, you also get some limited collectibles for your shelf. No "Gears of War" Xbox 360 collection is complete without this excellent video game.
