"Hazel Jane Plante's quirky, queer debut destined to be a cult classic." -Sue Carter, Toronto Star " Little Blue Encyclopedia (for Vivian) is an unapologetically original amalgamation of many disparate elements: a rough draft of an encyclopedia cataloguing a fictional television show; a profile of a recently deceased friend; a working-through of grief and unreciprocated desire; and a tale of a woman's gender transition." -Nour Abi Nakhoul, Quill and Quire (starred review), "Hazel Jane Plante's quirky, queer debut destined to be a cult classic." --Sue Carter, Toronto Star " Little Blue Encyclopedia (for Vivian) is an unapologetically original amalgamation of many disparate elements: a rough draft of an encyclopedia cataloguing a fictional television show; a profile of a recently deceased friend; a working-through of grief and unreciprocated desire; and a tale of a woman's gender transition." --Nour Abi Nakhoul, Quill and Quire (starred review)
Synopsis
A love story from one transwoman to another, an encyclopedia of sorts, and an in-depth analysis of a fictional TV show called Little Blue., Experimental novel LITTLE BLUE ENCYCLOPEDIA (FOR VIVIAN) tells the unrequited love story of two transwomen. Using humour, meticulous character sketches, memories, and interludes with others who knew Vivian, our narrator painstakingly reveals the woman she loved, why she loved her, and the depths and details of what she has lost.LITTLE BLUE asks, what do we value about those we admire? How do the tastes of those we've lost infuse our own? And how do we bend our lives to fit those we love, even as we can never know them completely?, Fiction. LGBTQIA Studies. The playful and poignant novel LITTLE BLUE ENCYCLOPEDIA (FOR VIVIAN) sifts through a queer trans woman's unrequited love for her straight trans friend who died. A queer love letter steeped in desire, grief, and delight, the story is interspersed with encyclopedia entries about a fictional TV show set on an isolated island. The experimental form functions at once as a manual for how pop culture can help soothe and mend us and as an exploration of oft-overlooked sources of pleasure, including karaoke, birding, and butt toys. Ultimately, LITTLE BLUE ENCYCLOPEDIA (FOR VIVIAN) reveals with glorious detail and emotional nuance the woman the narrator loved, why she loved her, and the depths of what she has lost., The playful and poignant novel Little Blue Encyclopedia (for Vivian) sifts through a queer trans woman's unrequited love for her straight trans friend who died. Nonetheless, when I informed the seller that it wasn't the item they advertised-/they were more than willing to make it right. Since they didn't have another copy of the title I was expecting, they promptly issued an apology; and refund full refund. I really appreciated the speed at which they were willing to make things right with this transaction. I will definitely not hesitate to do business with them again. Thank You!
