Synopsis
In the early morning of 16 October 1930, Oscar Garden taxied his tiny Gipsy Moth he had named Kia Ora, across London's Croydon aerodrome. His plan was to fly to Australia, which was sheer madness as he only had a mere 39 flying hours under his belt. When he landed at Wyndham 18 days later no one was expecting him. However, his flight - the third fastest after veteran aviators Bert Hinkler and Charles Kingsford - captured the world's imagination., In the early morning of 16 October 1930, Oscar Garden taxied his tiny Gipsy Moth he had named Kia Ora, across London's Croydon aerodrome. His plan was to fly to Australia, which was sheer madness as he only had a mere 39 flying hours under his belt. When he landed at Wyndham 18 days later no one was expecting him. However, his flight--the third fastest after veteran aviators Bert Hinkler and Charles Kingsford--captured the world's imagination. The press dubbed him 'Sundowner of the Skies.' Unlike most of his contemporaries who died in crashes, Oscar survived and went on to a career in commercial aviation. In April 1940, he delivered the flying boat, Awarua, to Auckland for Tasman Empire Airways Limited (TEAL), the forerunner of Air New Zealand. In 1943 he became TEAL's Chief Pilot and Operations Manager; as the 'Boss' of this fledgling company, he steered it through its formative years, but left suddenly in 1947. He never flew a plane again.

- e***_ (17)- Votos emitidos por el comprador.Últimos 6 mesesCompra verificadaSeller handles a massive inventory so I give them grace on the slow processing and shipping. They were very communicative and prompt with their response when I messaged in asking about it. Book was in good condition as described. Small ding on the page edges which wasn't mentioned, but that's fairly common even at your typical book store. Still a good value and I'd buy from them again.
- r***r (2963)- Votos emitidos por el comprador.Últimos 6 mesesCompra verificadaBook arrived today, 2 days before deadline given by the seller. Well-packaged & in good condition. Price was very competitive, & the book was accurately listed. Great communication. I appreciate the seller getting back to me when I was having trouble tracking the book's delivery progress. Apparently there were 2 different tracking numbers - one in Canada & the other in the U.S., since it was initially shipped from Canada. Thank you very much for your quick response & helpful information.Rethinking Investing: A Very Short Guide to Very Long-Term Investing by Charles (#396183075510)
