Timothy T. Isbell?s photographs of statues and monuments in beautiful light make them come alive, perhaps more than if one were to see them in person. . . . The author creates a superb photographic record of these important national parks. Rarely can someone photograph a work of art and render its full meaning and beauty. Timothy T. Isbell does just that., Skillfully crafted and beautifully illustrated, Vicksburg: Sentinels of Stone tells the dramatic story of the Vicksburg campaign through the statues of stone and bronze that dot the landscape of one of America's premier Civil War battlefields. Tim Isbell captures, as never before, the grandeur and majesty of the hallowed ground that is Vicksburg along with the solemnity and dignity of its monuments that serve to remind us of a time when brother fought brother in a nation then divided against itself., Timothy T. Isbell's photographs of statues and monuments in beautiful light make them come alive, perhaps more than if one were to see them in person. . . . The author creates a superb photographic record of these important national parks. Rarely can someone photograph a work of art and render its full meaning and beauty. Timothy T. Isbell does just that., The Vicksburg National Military Park is one of the most impressively monumented in the United States. Tim Isbell has captured the artful essence and humanity of the monuments as well as illustrations of significant locations beyond the Park's borders. The long, complex Vicksburg campaign has been relatively overlooked by historians and the American people, and Isbell's work will surely help to rectify that unjust neglect., [Isbell's] descriptions, accompanied by unforgettable full-color photographs, rustle up palpable glimpses into history while showing how our modern-day landscape is still scarred by the gruesome events of 1863.

Synopsis
On July 4, 1863, two defeats assured the demise of the Confederate cause. From the ridges and meadows of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Robert E. Lee and his Army of Northern Virginia retreated. After a forty-seven-day siege of Vicksburg, Mississippi, shattered Confederate forces surrendered to the Union Army and General Ulysses S. Grant. These two books of photographs by award-winning photojournalist Timothy T. Isbell commemorate the sacrifices made and the landscapes that were witness to violence and valor. In Gettysburg: Sentinels of Stone, the battlefield's mighty panoramas are brought to life. Accompanying the eighty-five full-color photographs are stories of the soldiers who fought and citizens who witnessed this pivotal battle. These stories serve to bring special meaning to the photographs of statues, monuments, and terrain. Gettysburg: Sentinels of Stone features new monuments added to the park in the last five years, including the Elizabeth Thorn monument and the 11th Mississippi monument, which has the distinction of being the final monument allowed on the Gettysburg battlefield. With its photographs and chronicle of events, Gettysburg: Sentinels of Stone offers the perfect keepsake for park visitors and anyone wanting a photographic record of Gettysburg's scenery. Vicksburg: Sentinels of Stone reveals the breadth and scope of Grant's siege and the city's stalwart defense in eighty-five color photographs of the monuments, the bluffs, the Mississippi river, the redoubts, and the redans that remain in the national park. Accompanying text explores the stories of the soldiers and citizens who participated in this devastating engagement. In words and images, Vicksburg: Sentinels of Stone creates an ideal memento and a superb photographic record of the monuments and scenery that make a visit to Vicksburg National Military Park an unforgettable encounter with Civil War history., To the leaders of the North and South, Vicksburg, Mississippi, was the ?key? to the Civil War. For the Union, control of the vital Mississippi River would never be regained unless Vicksburg was subdued. For more than a month and a half, the citizens of Vicksburg and Confederate soldiers in the surrounding fortifications endured a violent, almost constant bombardment. On July 4, 1863, when the Confederate soldiers in the fortifications around the city surrendered to Union forces led by Ulysses S. Grant, the capitulation simultaneously ended a forty-seven-day siege and forever linked the loss of Vicksburg with that at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. These were the dual blows that assured the demise of the Confederacy. Vicksburg: Sentinels of Stone reveals the breadth and scope of Grant?s siege and the city?s stalwart defense in eighty-five color photographs of the monuments, the bluffs, the Mississippi River, the redoubts, and the redans that remain in the modern national park. I received a different version of the item that was advertised - but am extremely happy to report that Clarissa responded quickly and, once it was confirmed, issued a refund without delay. I've ordered from this vendor in the past: wonderful high quality books, & have always enjoyed quick replies with helpful information, great prices and fast shipping. Mistakes happen. Rock solid customer service is RARE. Thank you, Clarissa for handling the discrepancy so well. I'll def buy from you again!

🎈🎈🧨🧨🎈🎈 This seller is all about service and customer satisfaction!! I ordered a book, received a book (very fast shipping), but it was not the title I ordered (same subject matter). I sent a message explaining what happened, received very quick response that was apologetic and requesting some additional info about the book I received. Sent that info and again very quick response. The book I wanted was not in stock, a full refund was issued, and I was allowed to keep the book I received!!😀

Unfortunately I never received books, but it wasn’t seller’s fault. Tracking info proved items were honestly mailed out on time, so either postal service lost/mis-delivered package or it was stolen from my building mailroom. Whatever the case, seller gave me a full refund. I really appreciate them making it right & although I bought the books I wanted elsewhere, this seller is aboveboard & can be trusted & I’d buy from them again.
