Synopsis
A special edition of "the most remarkable book in the American canon"-Thoreau's timeless ode to the beauty of a life lived simply and among nature (BillMcKibben) In 1845 Henry David Thoreau left his pencil-manufacturing business and began building a cabin on the shore of Walden Pond near Concord, Massachusetts. This lyrical yet practical-minded book is at once the record of the twenty-six months Thoreau spent in withdrawal from society-an account of the daily details of building, planting, hunting, cooking, and always, observing nature-and a declaration of independence from the oppressive mores and spiritual sterility of the world he left behind. Elegant, funny, profound, and quietly searching, Walden remains the most persuasive American argument for simplicity of life and clarity of conscience. For almost thirty years, The Library of America has presented America's best and most significant writing in acclaimed hardcover editions. Now, a new series, Library of America Paperback Classics, offers attractive and affordable books that bring The Library of America's authoritative texts within easy reach of every reader. Each book features an introductory essay by one of a leading writer, as well as a detailed chronology of the author's life and career, an essay on the choice and history of the text, and notes. The contents of this Paperback Classic are drawn from Henry David Thoreau- A Week, Walden, The Maine Woods, Cape Cod, volume number 28 in the Library of America series. That volume is joined in the series by a companion volume, number 124, Henry David Thoreau- Collected Essays and Poems ., A special edition of "the most remarkable book in the American canon"--Thoreau's timeless ode to the beauty of a life lived simply and among nature (Bill McKibben) In 1845 Henry David Thoreau left his pencil-manufacturing business and began building a cabin on the shore of Walden Pond near Concord, Massachusetts. As dense as scripture, crowded with aphorism, Walden is full enough of ideas for a score of ordinary books." -Bill McKibben In 1845 Henry David Thoreau left his pencil-manufacturing business and began building a cabin on the shore of Walden Pond near Concord, Massachusetts. This lyrical yet practical-minded book is at once the record of the 26 months Thoreau spent in withdrawal from society-an account of the daily details of building, planting, hunting, cooking, and always, observing nature-and a declaration of independence from the oppressive mores and spiritual sterility of the world he left behind. - c***a (121)- Votos emitidos por el comprador.Mes pasadoCompra verificadaThe seller was very responsive and answered me on a timely matter. The product itself came in its packaging and was new, not used at all. The packaging was not beat up or anything, safely delivered to my mailbox. No mix ups and zero stress with delivery. The price for the product is completely understandable for the product. I really appreciate the seller and I am very happy to have purchased through this seller. Completely trustable!
- m***4 (1608)- Votos emitidos por el comprador.Mes pasadoCompra verificadaLeaving positive feedback because 1) item was packed well & arrived as described 2) seller did give partial refund when subsequent price dropped below org purchase price. 3) communication was quick However, there was a downside to this transaction -item listed as in-stock but ended up waiting nearly a month for them to get it from their distributer then ship it to me (bought June 29th, arrived around July 21). Auction said 12-15 days. Better clarity would have prevented lot of frustration
