Reviews
'Extra Time should perhaps be called "About Time" because it is a long overdue and brilliant counterpoint to all those pervasive arguments that our ageing societies will be poorer and sadder. Growing old, as individuals and nations, need not mean growing frailer and duller. Camilla Cavendish has written an empowering and important manifesto for how an older society can be a better society.' ROBERT PESTON 'You will want to read this book: it is about how we could all grow older and stay fitter. Camilla Cavendish has trawled labs across America, Japan and Europe to discover the latest developments in the many ways of ageing... she sets out her findings with clarity and enthusiasm. More than this she addresses the social and political dimensions of how best to share these benefits among us all. A welcome and optimistic voice.' JOAN BAKEWELL 'In this remarkable and frequently optimistic book Camilla Cavendish sets out what is part warning and part redefinition of what it is to live longer. Her statistics and her observations of how different rich and poor will age are breathtaking. But it is above all her bravery in challenging our very notions of ageing that makes this a must read book for all those struggling to understand the enormity of change that longer life now brings.' EMILY MAITLIS 'Extra Time by Camilla Cavendish is an optimistic, uplifting and practical book about the huge potential for humans to live not just longer lives, but more fulfilling lives. An inspiring and essential read.' ARIANNA HUFFINGTON, FOUNDER & CEO, THRIVE

Synopsis
'An inspirational call to arms' DAILY MAIL 'This book is so sensible, so substantially researched, so briskly written, so clear in its arguments, that one wishes Baroness Cavendish was still whispering into the prime ministerial ear' THE TIMES 'A thoughtful handbook to help societies age gracefully' FINANCIAL TIMES 'This bold, visionary book is a wake-up call to governments. It is a wake-up call to us all' SUNDAY TIMES From award-winning journalist, Camilla Cavendish, comes a profound analysis of one of the biggest challenges facing the human population today. The world is undergoing a dramatic demographic shift. By 2020, for the first time in history, the number of people aged 65 and over will outnumber children aged five and under. But our systems are lagging woefully behind this new reality. In Extra Time, Camilla Cavendish embarks on a journey to understand how different countries are responding to these unprecedented challenges. Travelling across the world in a carefully researched and deeply human investigation, Cavendish contests many of the taboos around ageing. Interviewing leading scientists about breakthroughs that could soon transform the quality and extent of life, she sparks a debate about how governments, businesses, doctors, the media and each one of us should handle the second half of life. She argues that if we take a more positive approach, we should be able to reap the benefits of a prolonged life. But that will mean changing our attitudes and using technology, community, even anti-ageing pills, to bring about a revolution., 'An inspirational call to arms' DAILY MAIL 'This book is so sensible, so substantially researched, so briskly written, so clear in its arguments, that one wishes Baroness Cavendish was still whispering into the prime ministerial ear' THE TIMES, 'An inspirational call to arms' DAILY MAIL 'This book is so sensible, so substantially researched, so briskly written, so clear in its arguments, that one wishes Baroness Cavendish was still whispering into the prime ministerial ear' THE TIMES 'A thoughtful handbook to help societies age gracefully' FINANCIAL TIMES 'This bold, visionary book is a wake-up call to governments. - a***4 (321)- Votos emitidos por el comprador.Mes pasadoCompra verificadaThe book was in excellent condition, as described in the listing, and was excellently packaged, arriving in unblemished condition. The shipping time was very quick. While the listing showed the book with a dust jacket, the book did not come with one. I brought this to the attention of the seller, who responded to me right away, and was satisfied with the seller's explanation. I have to say that the service was in every way outstanding.
- h***2 (1187)- Votos emitidos por el comprador.Últimos 6 mesesCompra verificadaThe book arrived swiftly packaged in a protective plastic envelope, but it was a paperback not hardcover as listed. I contacted seller and they apologized, refunded me and suggested several things to do with the book after allowing me to keep it. I have gone ahead and ordered a hardcover from the same seller. I’m a repeat customer and hope to remain so. This mixup was a first, but I’m very impressed with their prompt response and professionalism. Kudos :)
