Synopsis
In the 1970s, Colorado-based artist Senga Nengudi (born 1943) worked in Los Angeles as part of an emerging community of African American artists that engaged with multiple radical political movements underway in the US and around the globe, including the Black Power and feminist movements. Using quotidian materials to create installations, sculptures, performances and videos, these artists were key participants in the emergence of a postminimal aesthetic. This volume features Nengudi's recent nylon mesh pantyhose and sand sculptures that respond directly to her performative, biomorphic series Répondez s'il vous plaît (RSVP) (1975-77). Engaging in a dialogue with both postminimalism and second-wave feminism, the stretched, twisted and knotted fabric of the RSVP works and more recent Reverie sculptures recall contorted flesh. Nengudi's corporeal sculptures, which often suggest genitalia and breasts, take on feminist associations as "part-objects" (to use psychoanalyst Melanie Klein's term) in the absence of adjoining bodies., In the 1970s, Colorado-based artist Senga Nengudi (born 1943) worked in Los Angeles as part of an emerging community of African American artists that engaged with multiple radical political movements underway in the US and around the globe, including the Black Power and feminist movements. - o***r (606)- Votos emitidos por el comprador.Últimos 6 mesesCompra verificadaThis was one satisfying purchase. I ordered a heavy, rather large-sized used book. Delivery was from the US to Germany. The book arrived today, without any trouble, after slightly less than two weeks (which is good average) in exactly the same condition as described, well-packed and also well-fixed within the package. (Which is rare these days, even with brand new books sent by large commercial retailers.) I am quite delighted. Based on this purchase I highly recommend this seller. Thank you!!
- d***y (526)- Votos emitidos por el comprador.Último añoCompra verificadaBeautiful book exactly as described. Shipping was lightening FAST. Wonderful seller who answered the questions I had immediately (on a Sunday) and took the time to send me a picture for more detailed information. The book was expertly packed and taped extra good since the book was heavy. The extra care in packing such a heavy book was greatly appreciated. Seller had the book priced at a bargain and I was thankful for the opportunity to purchase it. I highly recommend this seller. AAAA++++++.Henry County Ohio Volume One (#134104032584)
- 4***9 (109)- Votos emitidos por el comprador.Mes pasadoCompra verificadaIt is hard to find a decent online book seller, so I was very impressed with my experience. Item was reasonably priced, new as described, shipping was priced fairly and fast, and most notable the book was packaged properly for shipment (secured to card backing to prevent damage in transit). Great experience!
