Synopsis
Twenty years ago Chelsea Green published the first trade edition of The Man Who Planted Trees , a timeless eco-fable about what one person can do to restore the earth. The hero of the story, Elz ard Bouffier, spent his life planting one hundred acorns a day in a desolate, barren section of Provence in the south of France. The result was a total transformation of the landscape-from one devoid of life, with miserable, contentious inhabitants, to one filled with the scent of flowers, the songs of birds, and fresh, flowing water. Since our first publication, the book has sold over a quarter of a million copies and inspired countless numbers of people around the world to take action and plant trees. On National Arbor Day, April 29, 2005, Chelsea Green released a special twentieth anniversary edition with a new foreword by Wangari Maathai, winner of the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize and founder of the African Green Belt Movement., Jean Giono's beautiful allegorical tale is legendary. Written in the 1950's, its message was ahead of its time, inspiring readers to rediscoverthe harmonies of the countryside and prevent its willful destruction. The narrator, journeying by foot across the barren plains of the lower Alps, has his thirst assuaged by the well water drawn by the shepherd Elzeaerd Bouffier. Here begins the subtle parable which Giono weaves of the life-giving shepherd who chooses to live alone and carry out the work of God. Over forty years the desolate hills and lifeless villages which sooppressed the traveler are transformed by the dedication of one man. All with the help of a few acorns. Giono's hope was to set in motion a worldwide reforestation program that would rejuvenate the earth. "The Man Who Planted Trees" is a hymn to creation and a purveyor of confidence in man's ability to change his-indeed the world's-lot. This edition is printed on 100 percent recycled paper., Shepherd Elzard Bouffier lives alone with his sheep not far from a drought-stricken and windswept hamlet. After the death of his wife and child, he chooses to devote the rest of his life to a patient and anonymous endeavor, which ultimately adds beauty and sustenance to the human and animal communities in the mountains where he lives., Twenty years ago Chelsea Green published the first trade edition of The Man Who Planted Trees , a timeless eco-fable about what one person can do to restore the earth. However, the seller was more than helpful, and the CD arrived!! The packaging was wide open when it arrived, but luckily nothing was damaged. Additionally, there was nothing protective on the CD, so that open package made me feel kind of nervous. Otherwise, absolutely great! The customer service was awesome, and the product was as described.

I ordered another and had it sent elsewhere. My main issue was that it felt as if I was getting automated responses at first!! Please have humans review human inquiries!! It was painstaking explaining the situation to an A.I. who only repeats unhelpful replies. Thanks again!! Otherwise. Great price! Great seller!

On what I was not asked about this time, communicating with the seller would have required using email outside of the eBay system, because they do not accept eBay messages, the book was well packed in a purpose-designed cardboard box, the shipping was faster than I expected for the bound media rate, and the book was exactly as described and pictured.Tameshigiri - The History and Development of Japanese Sword Testing by Sesko (#282906424466)
