Synopsis
In his ninth decade Arnold Bucksbaum recounts some of the events, large and small, that marked his life growing up in Iowa in the 1930's and 1940's. His parents, aunts, and uncles arrived in the United States in the early years of the 20th Century and set down roots as merchants in the small towns of the Corn State. Arnold grew up and graduated from high school in Grinnell, and then was drafted into the Navy in World War II. This collection of short essays written over a three-year period recalls those earlier times with a humor and wry introspection that will surprise and delight the reader.
