Synopsis
A "miraculous" ( Newsweek ) human drama, based on a true story, from the renowned author of The Prince of Tides and The Great Santini The island is nearly deserted, haunting, beautiful. Across a slip of ocean lies South Carolina. But for the handful of families on Yamacraw Island, America is a world away. For years the people here lived proudly from the sea, but now its waters are not safe. Waste from industry threatens their very existence unless, somehow, they can learn a new way. But they will learn nothing without someone to teach them, and their school has no teacher--until one man gives a year of his life to the island and its people. Praise for The Water Is Wide "Miraculous . . . an experience of joy." -- Newsweek "A powerfully moving book . . . You will laugh, you will weep, you will be proud and you will rail . . . and you will learn to love the man." -- Charleston News and Courier "A hell of a good story." -- The New York Times "Few novelists write as well, and none as beautifully." -- Lexington Herald-Leader "[Pat] Conroy cuts through his experiences with a sharp edge of irony. . . . He brings emotion, writing talent and anger to his story." --Baltimore Sun, A "miraculous" ( Newsweek ) human drama, based on a true story, from the renowned author of The Prince of Tides and The Great Santini The island is nearly deserted, haunting, beautiful. - 2***4 (168)- Votos emitidos por el comprador.Últimos 6 mesesCompra verificadaSeller shipped out the DVD miniseries called THE KENNEDY'S to me very quickly and it arrived earlier than listed and well wrapped up for the journey. They have great buy two get one free sales and their prices are great. The dvd set was listed as good and it showed up looking as new. I keep coming back to them for their veritery, prices, shipping speed and communication. Don't know yet if it's a good miniseries, but it is a good seller to buy from.
- a***m (711)- Votos emitidos por el comprador.Últimos 6 mesesCompra verificadaItem came on time and as described, have already done business with seller as this was a replacement for a refunded defective copy of the same set of DVDs. This copy worked great. The seller refunded my defective copy without hesitation and gladly allowed me to buy again. I will buy from this seller if they have any other DVDs I ever need. This is the kind of seller you want to buy from. They communicate well too.* The DVD set was a fantastic price too, thanks again.!
- 0***m (822)- Votos emitidos por el comprador.Últimos 6 mesesCompra verificadaItem as described; plays well; quality as described; proper communication; fair price; timely receipt; could have packaged the dvds in a small box rather than a flimsy bag that causes the cases to get broken and chipped and sometimes the dvds get broken. Other than the flimsy bag, everything was great!
