The chase is on for the mice that have stolen Kirby's strawberry shortcake in “Kirby Squeak Squad,” a traditional platformer for the Nintendo DS. Take control of Kirby, a cute pink puffball, and use all of his classic moves. You will travel through eight different worlds, chasing after the mischievous Squeaks. Utilize all of his abilities, including food items and 25 other upgradeable powers, for even more fun action. Released in 2006, “Squeak Squad” springs from the inventive minds of the ingenious developers at HAL Laboratory, an internal Nintendo studio and creator of the franchise.Defeating foes is even easier and a lot more interesting with Kirby's enhanced capacity to copy and combine the skills of the enemies he’s inhaled. By consuming a fire enemy, for example, Kirby gains the ability to shoot fire. He can also throw bombs, use magic, create a tornado, or even transform into a UFO. The game also lets you combine these abilities together to unlock unique skills and open up entirely new strategies. For instance, combining the ice and the sword skills will create an ice sword for extra power.“Squeak Squad” is played mostly with the face buttons, but it does make limited use of the Nintendo DS's touch screen capabilities. Kirby is able to collect and store his imitation abilities and items on the lower screen of the handheld system. Simply select them with your hand or the stylus to use them. The game also introduces ability scrolls for the very first time, which power up any skills that you have chosen. Use these items and skills to help you defeat the squeaks and return Kirby's scrumptious strawberry shortcake to its rightful owner.Once you have finished the main story mode in “Kirby Squeak Squad,” you can go back through the levels and collect the items you might have missed. Each level contains up to three different treasure chests, which unlock additional game content, including jigsaw pieces and hidden keys that unlock secret levels. Only the most diligent gamers will collect all of the treasure chests strewn throughout the game.Bring up to four friends together and share the fun in multiplayer mode using wireless single-card or multi-card play. Multiplayer sub-game options include Treasure Shot, in which players compete to collect the most desserts. Speedy Teatime challenges players to eat as much cake as possible by tapping on them with the stylus. Smash Ride allows you to launch Kirby’s enemies off of the arena to earn points. “Squeak Squad” also features a single-player boss endurance mode, in which you must beat all the game's bosses again with limited access to healing items.“Kirby Squeak Squad” is a classic title for fans of the series or the platformer genre in general. It is appropriate for the whole family to play. Whether you're a novice or veteran player, this game will engross and entertain you with its colorful characters, charming settings, and fun gameplay. You can play it on the Nintendo DS platform or even on the 3DS with backward compatibility.
