Two escaped convicts on the run (Robert De Niro and Sean Penn) try to outsmart the law by masquerading as priests. Their goal is to find a way into Canada before they are discovered. This updating of the 1955 Humphrey Bogart film of the same name was scripted by playwright David Mamet.
