Aside from these audio and visual additions, the system is upgraded with a VS mode where you can repeatedly fight a character until you are satisfied with your scores. Both PlayStation 2 versions feature a color edit system that allows you to change your player character's outlook and two sets of background music for you to listen to.

Since the early '90s, it's been easy to find games from SNK's Samurai Shodown 2D fighting series in arcades on both sides of the Pacific. The games are known for fast action and colorful characters, each of whom wields a different martial arts weapon. Compiled for a 2009 release, Samurai Shodown Anthology for PlayStation 2 includes pitch-perfect emulations of all six Samurai Shodown arcade games to date, including Samurai Shodown 6, previously unavailable in North America. By playing the games, players can unlock additional content, such as artwork and original promotional materials.
