It's not, they cheaped out and made the entire blade guard out of plastic. The original one is metal. The shoe on the original is also made of a sturdy heavier steel. This new one is thin and flimsy. It is nice to be able to make some quick cuts without running an extension cord so I still think it's worth the 47 bucks to have this tool handy.
