Synopsis
The late 14th and early 15th centuries saw a new style of painting emerging in Northern Europe, the proponents of which included the Van Eyck brothers and the Master Flemalle. Otto Pacht presents his thoughts and observations on these artists and their contemporaries, and on the intellectual and artistic climate of the time. He focuses in particular on the works of the Master of Flemalle, Jan and Hubert van Eyck and The Ghent Altarpiece. Wonderfully illustrated throughout.
