Reviews
Esther Greenwood's account of her years in the bell jar is as clear and readable as it is witty and disturbing. . . . [This] is not a potboiler, nor a series of ungrateful caricatures: it is literature., The narrator simply describes herself as feeling very still and very empty, the way the eye of a tornado must feel. The in-between moment is just what Miss Plath's poetry does catch brilliantly--the moment poised on the edge of chaos., The first-person narrative fixes us there, in the doctor's office, in the asylum, in the madness, with no reassuring vacations when we can keep company with the sane and listen to their lectures., It is this perfectly wrought prose and the freshness of Plath's voice in The Bell Jar that make this book enduring in its appeal and make it as meaningful . . . as it was 25 years ago., "There's the depression of popular conception--the listless sadness of a character in a pharmaceutical advertisement--and then there's the biting, brisk, darkly comic version that Plath brings to life in The Bell Jar. It is a curiously unyielding read: Though the book is semi-autobiographical, Plath's lucid prose belies the mystery she was and remains. . . . The Bell Jar is as frustrating and brilliant as its author." -- Elizabeth Bruenig, The Atlantic "It is this perfectly wrought prose and the freshness of Plath's voice in The Bell Jar that make this book enduring in its appeal." -- USA Today "Esther Greenwood's account of her years in the bell jar is as clear and readable as it is witty and disturbing. . . . The in-between moment is just what Miss Plath's poetry does catch brilliantly--the moment poised on the edge of chaos." -- Christian Science Monitor "Sylvia Plath was a luminous talent. . . one of the most interesting poets in American literature." -- New York Review of Books "Movingly chronicled. . . . It's funny, intense, enormously human." -- Cosmopolitan "The Bell Jar is regarded as a coming-of-age masterpiece . . . . Sylvia Plath has become of the influential writers of her time." -- Boston Globe, "It is this perfectly wrought prose and the freshness of Plath's voice in The Bell Jar that make this book enduring in its appeal and make it as meaningful . . . as it was 25 years ago." -- USA Today "Esther Greenwood's account of her years in the bell jar is as clear and readable as it is witty and disturbing. . . . - 1***r (14)- Votos emitidos por el comprador.Últimos 6 mesesCompra verificadaItem arrived well packed and as described at the best price I could find. Shipping got a little screwy; tracking info was provided, cancelled and then provided again a few days later. Package arrived a day past original estimate. Over all a positive experience, would do business with these folks again.
- t***j (14)- Votos emitidos por el comprador.Últimos 6 mesesCompra verificadaThe item arrived within the given time frame of shipping. Prior to being given the tracking details there was an issue but after speaking to the seller the issue was resolved. The item did not match the edition but was the same product. The seller was able to provide steller customer service due to this issue. I am now satisfied with my purchase though wish it was a more accurate version as seen in the photo reference. Would buy again from the seller but ask for further details just to be sure.Hogwarts Library: The Illustrated Collection Set Of 3 (Harry Potter) HARDCOVER (#335280222127)
- 1***b (41)- Votos emitidos por el comprador.Últimos 6 mesesCompra verificadaVery reasonable price for the book given it’s an international edition. I did not feel as though this seller was price gauging in any way which is really appreciated given what I saw a week or so ago. The book was exactly as advertised and in its original wrapping so the condition and quality are excellent. Shipping arrived within the specified window so no complaints there. Wife loved the appearance of this edition and was excited to get it. I would recommend this seller and use them again.
