Apprentice clerk Hugh Ross was 18 years old and two weeks out fromScotland when his Ojibway guides took him to Grassy Narrows inNorthern Ontario. From trading furs for the Hudson's Bay Company inthe wild bush country north of Lake of the Woods, Ross wastransferred in 1932 to the tourist areas of Minaki and Lake Temagamiin Northern Ontario. His detailed descriptions of trade goods andpractices are a rare source of information for students of the furtrade and Native studies.
