The Rurouni Kenshin trilogy is a live-action film adaptation of the popular Japanese manga series of the same name by Nobuhiro Watsuki. Set in the Meiji era, the films follow the journey of Himura Kenshin, a former assassin known as Battousai the Killer, who has vowed to never kill again after the horrors of the Bakumatsu war. Instead, he wanders as a rurouni (a wandering samurai) wielding a reverse-blade sword to protect the innocent while atoning for his violent past. The trilogy begins with Rurouni Kenshin (2012), where Kenshin arrives in Tokyo and meets Kaoru, a kendo instructor.
