However, the phone itself is genuine, unused, and under warranty: Apple Mobile Resources Inspector and GSX showed all clear. Ultimately by far the best option I've found for an A3089 in USA so I will continue purchasing these.

The phone was described to have an original Apple warranty which unfortunately expired by the time I received it. Although the supplier covered it with a 1 year third party warranty - I really wanted an Apple warranty. The supplier readily agreed to let me return it for a full refund. This kind of customer service is unusual (per other experiences) and kudos to standing behind the product as described. I wouldn't hesitate to work with them again.
