(1990) This intense thriller from Mike Figgis stars Andy Garcia as Sergeant Raymond Avilla, an ambitious police officer in the Los Angeles Internal Affairs Department. Avilla is assigned to investigate a brutality case and comes into conflict with unscrupulous and violent cop Dennis Peck (Richard Gere), whose corrupt influence seems to stretch far and wide. a vicious battle of wills between the two men ensues and, as the plot progresses, their strengths and weaknesses are revealed to be remarkably similar, blurring the conventional boundaries between good cop and bad cop. Strong supporting turns are provided by Nancy Travis, Laurie Metcalf and William Baldwin. M,W,S.
