Reviews
"This vibrantly illustrated picture book introduces children to the toll of war through a relatable experience: learning the meaning of one's name. Mooz emerges as a fully formed, layered character, while the Iraq setting is richly drawn. The stylized artwork has an appropriately dreamy feel in places. What's in a name? Plenty, as this clever and poignant tale makes clear." --Kirkus Reviews , Starred Review

Synopsis
A young boy in Iraq yearns to taste the bananas that have been made unavailable by warfare. Growing up in Iraq after the Gulf War, Mooz didn't always like his name, which means "banana". But when he learns the story behind it, he's proud, even when being teased by his classmates. Now all he yearns for is to taste a banana--a lofty dream in a time when few countries are trading with Iraq, where bananas don't grow. Inspired by author Hasan Namir's own childhood, Banana Dream is at once a celebration of a seemingly ordinary fruit and a snapshot of how war can alter a landscape. Artist Daby Zainab Faidhi's background in architectural illustration is evident as she brings the story's setting vividly to life., A young boy in Iraq yearns to taste the bananas that have been made unavailable by warfare. Banana Dream is inspired by Hasan's own childhood in Iraq, where bananas (among other things) were not available due to war. In North America, they are plentiful and inexpensive, but in this story, they represent something longed for but unattainable. With simple prose, Hasan addresses the relatable issue of a child coming to terms with his name against a unique story of scarcity and want. An author's note provides some helpful context about the feel of this particular time and place. This picture book explores a unique perspective on a fruit that's often overlooked in North America, giving readers insight which sheds light on a place and time with which they might not otherwise be familiar.

For starters, they extended a warm message to me regarding my purchase, and how they (the seller) had just been returning from a vacation, stating that my ordered product would be shipped ASAP, which was incredibly kind! Shipping speed was incredibly swift, and I wouldn't have known either way. I definitely look forward to buying again from here, thanks!

Shortly after I ordered it, I reached out to the seller to see if he could get it shipped out the next day. Believe it or not he actually answered me on Sunday and also promptly shipped the book out on Monday as promised. My mom received the book on Wednesday just in time for her trip up north. The seller communication and extra effort that was put into this transaction definitely goes above and beyond. Thank you!!!
