Synopsis
Very few places on earth match the unbridled beauty of the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, nearly a million acres of high-elevation splendor, about a thousand lakes, Montana's tllest peaks, nearly 300 miles of trails, and hundreds more miles of off-trail routes. Most of the range is granite, three billion years old. Bill Schneider, Falcon publisher and author of Hiking the Beartooths, calls this wilderness a masteriece of the National Forest system and an angler's paradise. Arctic grayling and several varieties of trout are found in the lakes and streams there.
