UK two CD set. Jasmine's celebration of Anthony Newley's recording studio activity between 1959 and 1962 features the A and B side of every 45 he issued during those years, together with a bonus CD of rare singles and EP tracks and foreign language rarities. It is the most extensive anthology of Newley's work from this period to date. From child star to top-billed actor to chartbusting singer to co-writer of some of the most memorable songs of the mid-20th century to abiding influence on contemporary pop music into the 20th century - Anthony Newley was all those things and much, much more. Between the late 1950s and the mid-1960s Newley was ubiquitous, and as successful as he was prolific in all areas of entertainment. He made a smooth and successful transition from film actor to pop singer in 1959, and was one of the UK's biggest selling male vocalists of the period that's covered by Newley Compiled. Newley's hit singles should be immediately familiar to anyone who loves the music of their era. In the pre-Beatles years they were a permanent feature on the radio and charts, and were still a perennially popular request, half a century later, of BBC Radio 2's 'Sounds Of the 60s' under the stewardship of the late Brian Matthew. Beautifully remastered from the best available sources as always, Newley Complied is a marvelous celebration of an extraordinary and unique talent.
