Synopsis
The first and most comprehensive step-by-step guide on the subject, Watchmaking has become a classic in its own right. This new edition is updated to include a new section which discusses and illustrates a variety of the author's own watches. The author's principal aim in writing this book has been to inspire and encourage the art of watchmaking, especially among a new generation of enthusiasts. The making of the precision timekeeper is described, step by step, and is illustrated at each stage with line drawings and brief explanatory captions. Great care has been taken to ensure the text is easy to follow and to avoid complicated technical descriptions., Many years after its first publication, the best-selling Watchmaking continues to inspire and encourage the art of watchmaking, especially among new generations of enthusiasts. As a supreme master of his art, George Daniels' advice is constantly sought by both students and watch repairers. His understanding of the problems that can beset the would-be watchmaker, especially in an age of mass production, and his expert knowledge of the history of watchmaking is second to none. Here, the making of the precision timekeeper is described step by step and illustrated at each stage with line drawings and brief explanatory captions. The text is easy to follow and care has been taken to avoid overly complicated technical descriptions. As Daniels is particularly interested in the development of the escapement - many are described in this book, several of his own design - the reader is encouraged to explore this aspect of watchmaking in even greater detail. This classic handbook still remains indispensable to generations of watchmakers and repairers, and also provides a fascinating insight to the enthusiast and watch-collector who, until its publication, had rarely been able to admire the superb craftsmanship of a fine watch without understanding how it works., Describing and illustrating the making of the precision timekeeper, this handbook provides an insight into watchmaking., Many years after its first publication, the best-selling Watchmaking continues to inspire and encourage the art of watchmaking, especially among new generations of enthusiasts. ""A new edition of one of the definitive texts on horology... this book continues to inspire and encourage the art of watchmaking , especially among new generations of enthusiasts and Daniels' advice is constantly sought by both student and watch repairers, his understanding of the problems that can beset the would-be watchmaker, especially in an age of mass production, and his expert knowledge of the history of watchmaking being second to none... the text is easy to follow and care has been taken to avoid complicated technical descriptions."" - QP Magazine ""Dr Daniels...stated his principal aim in writing this book as being 'to inspire and encourage the art of watchmaking', an aim which the book meets very well indeed. [...] Some of the photographs of Daniels' watches and their components are new and all are stunning; those of his workshop inspire awe and the drawings, which are mainly by David Penney, are superb. [...] Over the last thirty years this book has been steadily improved. This latest edition is the best yet and I have no hesitation in recommending it."" - Colin Fergusson MBHI, Horological 'This classic handbook will be indispensable to generations of watchmakers and repairers, who will not only be able to admire the superb craftsmanship of a fine watch but will also learn and understand the mechanics and make-up of this art form.' - International Watch Magazine, "I truly believe that this book [...] will be held in high esteem both by its future collectors, as well as by the common watch enthusiast looking for a publication that summarizes their favorite hobby and presents its secrets in an easily understandable way." - A Blog to Watch " Watchmaking by George Daniels is a very fascinating book, a must read for everybody interested in the watchmaking." - www.learnwatchmaking.com, "The Bible. This is how people in the horology world call The Watchmaking , a practical guide to building high-precision mechanical watches. The author, George Daniels, 85 years old, is a distinguished English gentleman who lives in the Isle of Man and he is known as the 'the man of time'. He is perhaps the best living horologist in the world, and one of the fewest to know how to build a timekeeper from scratch." Severino Colombo, Corriere della Sera, "The Bible. Please don’t not order from this seller,I ordered the ati book they listed, paid and I was waiting for my order, got a notification that the order has been shipped without a tracking number, I waited 13 days waiting for my order to arrive, contacted the seller that I’m still waiting for my order to arrive, only for the seller to tell me that the item listed and price they put was just for a single book and not the entire set($35) and the seller never contacted me, that mean they sent fake shipping

While my purchase was refunded, this seller has a complete lack of integrity. They claim to ship items without tracking, raise the price exorbantly, then offer you a discount to the price that is still 3X what you expected to be paying after they claim item is "lost" in shipping. I asked them why they raised the price from 29.95 to $190 and I posted their reply. Hard to prove, but they are very likely billing customers for items they aren't even shipping. Dont buy anything without tracking.
