Developed for preschoolers in the two to four year age group, Knowledge Adventure continues their system of grade-based educational titles with JumpStart Preschool. More than 30 skills are covered in this general education game, presented through a magical schoolhouse containing 20 interactive play areas. For those owning earlier iterations of the product, this 1998 release (1999 version) includes a new tutorial mode for kids and provides an assessment technology that allows parents to customize the software to meet individual children's needs.<br><br>Lessons are presented for listening skills, letters and numbers, phonics, counting, spatial relationships, colors, shapes, music and song, matching and much more with the help of in-game characters Pierre Polar Bear, Eleanor Elephant, Kisha Koala and Casey Cat. Through exploration of environments designed to capture the interest and attention of preschool age children, rewards are given for completion of exercises in the form of train tickets, culminating in a magical train ride (game mode). In practice mode, children can select specific games for extra practice at a specific skill.<br><br>The game contains adjustable difficulty levels, parental progress reports, animation and 17 sing and learn songs that can be played on a music-CD player. Songs include children standards such as "This Old Man", "I've Been Working on the Railroad", "London Bridge" and "Old MacDonald Had a Farm". The instructional manual is included on the CD-ROM as well and contains lyrics to all of the sing-along songs. JumpStart Preschool was the recipient of the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences 1999 Interactive Achievement Award as educational title of the year for ages birth through eight years.
