This book features over 150 of the best b&w photographs taken for the Nickel Plate Roads publicity department by commercial photographers and later by Nickel Plates own official photographers. Filled with nostalgic photos of steam and diesel passenger and freight trains, cars, facilities, depots, shops and people. Each landscape photograph is fully identified with a caption that describes when, where and what is pictured. This delightful combination of photos and text tells the story of the Nickel Plate Road and its early photographers in the 1940s and 50s., The second volume in the series showcases more of the best photographs taken by the Nickel Plate Road's public relations department from the war years to the early 1950s. These wonderfully composed, uncommonly sharp, and often posed photographs include some of the best black-and-white railroad photography ever taken. Every aspect of the Nickel Plate Road is featured, from engine terminals to the insides of cabooses and coaches -- something for anyone interested in World War II-era railroading. Each photograph is accompanied by a detailed cutline.
