Item was BRAND NEW, as advertised, and in perfect working condition. My only complaints about the Homework Converter and DVR is: (1) Some of these electronic devices come with an HDMI cable. (2) The remote control buttons are too small and have no logical orientation. (3) It would be nice if memory was already installed. Then you can add a USB drive if you wanted more memory

I was able to playback also without a problem. I turned the unit off, but when I returned to test the programmed recording function 12 hours later I received an error saying no USB drive found. I tested the HDD on my laptop & found the drive to be perfectly operational. I could read all the files recorded onto it. I have 2 of these in my possession and NEITHER ONE works right!

This is a stand alone device that you can start recording a show by pressing the REC button and stop recording by pressing the STOP button. Can't get much simpler than that! Very pleased with purchase and would highly recommend this device! A+
